N. Joel Fry, MSW, LISW

President/Therapist & Speaker

N. Joel Fry, MSW, LISW is president and co-founder of TEAM Restoration Ministries. He is a husband, father and elder in his church, and is committed to seeing lives and relationships restored. Joel earned his BA at Simpson College, and earned his Master of Social Work (MSW) and Aging Studies Certificate from the University of Iowa. He is a State of Iowa Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW). He formerly served as an administrator with a hospice organization and has significant experience teaching at the college level. Joel preaches and speaks frequently, and he and his wife, Heather, volunteer with local, state and national marriage initiatives. His counseling experience and interests include the areas of pre-marriage, marriage, individual, family, adolescent, and grief and loss therapy. He believes in the sanctity of forgiveness as the key to emotional and spiritual health, and uses a biblical approach to counseling.

Joel is available to facilitate seminars or retreats in the areas of leadership, team building, strategic planning, grief and loss/hospice care, aging, and marriage and family issues. His wife Heather is available to speak on women's issues, marriage, parenting, and spiritual growth.

Troy Fiscella, M.Div.

Christian Counselor/Speaker

In December 2006, Troy Fiscella accepted an invitation to join TEAM Restoration Ministries and is honored to share the peace he's found in Christ though counseling and speaking. Troy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Education from Hannibal-LaGrange College and a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has over 15 years of experience in church and missions ministries. In addition, Troy teaches philosophy courses at local colleges.
Troy offers biblical counseling services to individuals, couples, and families. His goal is to lead people to reconcile their relationships with others and with God so they can experience an abundant life in Christ.

He is available to facilitate seminars or retreats in the areas of leadership, strategic planning, team building, youth ministry, spiritual growth, or marriage and family issues. His wife, Sherry, is available to speak to women in the areas of parenting, home schooling, and spiritual growth.

Stephen Bohlen, MA, LMHC


Steve Bohlen, MA, LMHC is a counselor with TEAM Restoration Ministries, who seeks to have his clients experience transformation through the renewing of their minds. 

He is licensed by the Sate of Iowa as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).  He received his undergraduate degree in Behavioral Science from Iowa Wesleyan College (Mount Pleasant, IA) and his Master of Arts degree in Counseling through Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA).   His internship was with Keys to Living, located in Cedar Rapids, IA. 

Steve moved to Ames, IA a few years ago after working in private practice in Southeast Iowa for 17 years.  His focus is marriage, famiy and individual counseling. 

 In Ames, he established membership with a local church and is involved in several ministries, serving in children ministries and facilitating small groups. 

 He is a husband, father and grandfather who strives to demonstrates God’s love in all he does and says.

Cindy Pommrehn, MACM, LMHC


Cindy Pommrehn is a Christian counselor with TEAM Restoration Ministries and is passionate about partnering with others in their journeys of growth and healing. She earned her BA at Central College (Pella, IA) and her Master of Arts in Counseling Ministry (MACM) at Lincoln Christian Seminary (Lincoln, IL). Cindy was licensed by the State of Illinois from 2001-2009 as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and has been licensed by the State of Iowa as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) since 2008. Prior to joining TEAM Restoration Ministries, Cindy worked in a higher education setting primarily in the areas of counseling and teaching. She also served with a counseling ministry in central Illinois for 10 years. Her counseling experience and interests include working with adult females, children, and families in a variety of areas. She approaches counseling with intentional integration of theology and psychology. Cindy is also a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and is a Board Certified Professional Christian Counselor.

Valerie Huntley, MSW, LISW


Valerie C. Huntley, MSW, LISW is a Christian Counselor with Team Restoration Ministries who started working with TRM in September 2009. Valerie is a Christ-servant, wife, mother, and singer who is passionate about empowering others to find reconciliation, growth, and healing through the guidance of Christ.

Valerie earned her Bachelor's Degree (BA) at Simpson College (Indianola, IA) in Psychology with a minor in Biology. She earned her Masters of Social Work (MSW) at St. Ambrose University (Davenport, IA). She has been licensed in the state of Iowa as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) since November 2008. She has prior advanced certification in Hospice and Palliative Care.

Valerie's work experience includes: hospice social worker, palliative care social work counseling, drug and alcohol treatment counseling, mental health counseling, and contracted counseling for troubled youth with area court-appointed treatment facilities. Valerie is a professional member of the Eating Disorder Coalition of Iowa.

Her counseling experience and interests include the areas of individual, marriage, family, adolescents, eating disorders, abuse victims, grief and loss, and substance abuse recovery. Her favorite Bible verse is Phillipians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." God wrote these words for everyone and Valerie is excited to help you find the strength you need through God to overcome whatever obstacle(s) you are facing for through Christ there is healing and renewal.

Brent Douglas, MA, LMHC


Brent Douglas, MA, LMHC is a counselor with TEAM Restoration Ministries, who is committed to honoring Christ and joining with others to see God's transforming work in their lives.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Biblical Studies at Grace University (Omaha, NE) and his Master of Arts degree in Counseling through Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA). He is licensed by the state of Iowa as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

Working in the mental health field since 2002, he has served in a variety of roles, primarily working with young men, children, adolescents, and families. Brent has also enjoyed his experience ministering and serving in a local church setting.

Brent is available to provide counseling to individuals, families, and couples. He relies on the Bible as the foundation of truth as he works towards the goal of helping others find health, peace, and joy in their lives.

Leah Olson, LMSW


Leah Olson, LMSW graduated from Northwestern College (Orange City, IA) with her bachelors in social work in 2002 and from the University of Iowa with her masters in social work in 2006. Leah is a wife, mother and volunteer for children's ministry at her church.

Leah comes to TEAM Restoration Ministries with over 14 years of experience in the social work field, with over half of those being dedicated to working with children with behavioral and special education needs in the school setting. Leah has previous counseling experience with children, families and young adults. Leah utilizes an eclectic approach to counseling and desires to meet individuals and families where they are at in life's journey. She desires to support them in meeting their potential and in obtaining the peace and contentment that God desires them to experience.

Julie Porter, MA, Temporary Licensed MHC


Julie Porter, MA, MHC is a counselor with TEAM Restoration Ministries, who has a passion to come alongside individuals, couples, and families offering them faith, hope, and healing through the ministry of Jesus Christ.

Julie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education – Spanish at the Wichita State University and her Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling through Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA). She is licensed in the state of Iowa as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

Julie moved back to Iowa in 2013 and is originally from Iowa but has spent the last 25 years traveling with her husband who is now retired from the United States Air Force; she and her husband of 23 years and their children lived in Kansas, Guam, and most recently, North Carolina.

Julie has experience teaching and ministering to teens, women, and couples; however, she enjoys working with people from all age groups and of every background. Isaiah 61:1-4 echoes Julie’s heart for her clients; she desires to see prisoners set free, to comfort and provide for those who grieve, and to listen to the pain but point others to the joy, praise, and beauty that can come from life’s heartaches and trials.

Bev Pospisil, MFT

Temporary Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Bev Pospisil, MFT, is a marriage and family therapist who is excited to join with Team Restoration and their mission to “facilitate the healing and strengthening of marriages, families, and individuals through the blood of Jesus and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit”.  Having experienced the restoring power of God in her own life, Bev is passionate to see others healed, transformed, and empowered to experience life fully, love and be loved, and walk in the fullness of their calling.

A recent graduate of Capella University, Bev received her Masters of Science in Human Services with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy.  She completed her yearlong internship at House of Hope in Cedar Rapids. During that time she had the opportunity to work with individuals, couples, families, and small groups.  Bev recognizes that it takes courage to seek therapy, and she considers it an honor to be a part of this healing and transforming process.  

Bev has been married to Marv for twenty-four years.  When she married him she entered into a beautiful family which has grown to include five adult children, twelve grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.  During their time together they have faced many life challenges, but God has been faithful in his love and care for them. 

Bev is available to counsel individuals, couples, and families.

Michele Johnson, MA, CADC, Temporary Licensed MHC


Michele Johnson is a Christian counselor and Des Moines native who is excited about serving residents in the DSM metro area. She has been called to be an example of God’s grace and mercy to those who are hurting as a result of life’s challenges and to support those who simply need to be reminded of His love. She believes the fact we are all made in God’s image can bring hope and purpose to everyone, even those who feel their lives are too broken.

Michele earned her Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA). She is currently licensed by the state of Iowa to provide mental health counseling and she is certified as an alcohol and drug counselor. She has worked in a residential facility for women with addictions, and she has served as a therapist in several schools and in a county jail.

As she and her husband, Ronny, begin a new stage of life with their three children now grown, Michele is especially interested in helping young women realize their self-worth and reach their full God-given potential. She is passionate about helping others find the courage they need to make desired changes in their lives and to walk along beside them during the process.

Matt Johnson, M Div


Matt Johnson is a counselor at TEAM Restoration who is passionate about strong marriages and families. His goal is to come along side of each client and help them reach their mental and spiritual health goals. Matt offers a Biblical counseling approach that is intended to allow God’s Word to do the healing work.

Matt received his undergraduate degree in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa and his Masters in Youth and Family Ministry from Denver Seminary. He has over 10 years of experience within the areas of children, youth and college ministries. These experiences have presented many opportunities to counsel people in various seasons of life. 

Matt is currently the director of Children's Ministries at Veritas Church in Iowa City, and is in the process of obtaining his Master's in Christian Counseling from Midwestern Seminary. He and his wife, Rebekah, currently reside in Iowa City where he enjoys spending time with his three sons-- Micah, Mathias and Maxwell.

Hayley Downey, MSW, LMSW


Hayley Downey, MSW, LMSW is a counselor who desires to walk alongside people, helping them discover the hope, healing, and freedom found in the Gospel. She takes the time to meet people wherever they are, patiently helping them to establish or renew their strength and perspective through Biblical truths. Hayley welcomes anyone into her office, regardless of their beliefs.

Hayley attended the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Social Work degrees. During her graduate studies, she completed the trauma-informed care track, which gave her a sensitive and well informed framework from which to work with all clients. Hayley is licensed in the state of Iowa to provide therapy, and currently practices in the Cedar Valley.

Hayley believes that an authentic therapy relationship is a powerful tool that can be used to help people make the changes they desire. She is passionate about helping her clients gain a deeper understanding of God's character and His promises. She wants each client to leave therapy with a greater sense of their identity in Christ and an awareness of their unlimited access to His joy and peace. Lynne Gould, MS, LMHC


Lynne Gould, MS, LMHC is a Christian counselor who joined TEAM Restoration Ministries in July 2017. Lynne is passionate about helping others discover who God created them to be and navigate through difficulties they may encounter along the way.

Lynne earned her Bachelor of Arts in English and Writing at Minnesota State University (Mankato, MN) and later a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education Language Arts through Buena Vista University (Storm Lake, IA). She earned her Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling at South Dakota State University (Brookings, SD). Lynne is licensed by the state of Iowa as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and is a Nationally Certified Counselor.

Lynne desires to help people discover the truth and freedom Christ offers and effectively apply God’s Word in their lives. She uses a person-centered, caring approach in counseling clients to bring them hope, healing, and purpose.

Lynne is available to provide counseling to upper adolescents and adults. She is passionate about helping people facing life-stage challenges and transitions, women in crisis, single mothers, and people overwhelmed with confusion, anxiety or depression. Lynne has over 17 years of experience in various settings helping people face life's challenges. Prior to becoming a mental health therapist, she worked as a Christian counselor and mentor at ATLAS; as an advocate for victims of domestic violence at Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA); as a college Success Center instructor and adviser; as a teacher and counselor with at-risk adolescents; and as a residential instructor for the developmentally disabled. In addition, she has served as a worship leader and small group facilitator at her church.

Lynne and her husband Steve reside in northwest Iowa, where she enjoys reading, gardening, creating art, playing the guitar, and spending time with her husband, two grown children, two grandsons, and her pets. Lynne will forever praise and thank Jesus Christ, Who has blessed her and sustained her through many trials in her life. One of her favorite verses is Romans 9:33b – “…he who believes in Him [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Him] shall not be put to shame {nor} be disappointed in his expectations.” (AMP)

Neil Nelsen, MA

Chief Operating Officer/Speaker

Neil Nelsen, MA is the Chief Operating Officer for TEAM Restoration Ministries.  Neil began working part-time for TEAM Restoration Ministries in January of 2009, and then came on full time as the Chief Operating Officer in September of 2010.  Neil provides the oversight for the daily operations and logistics of the ministry.  Prior joining TEAM Restoration Ministries, Neil was a licensed athletic trainer in the State of Iowa and had practiced Athletic Training for 7 years where he had held positions at Stadia Sports Medicine in West Des Moines, the Des Moines Menace, and also Head Athletic Trainer at Simpson College.  While at Simpson College, Neil was also an instructor in the Exercise Science Department.  Neil’s passion to see people restored through Jesus’ love and grace is what attracted him to come and be a part of TRM. He believes that through the peace and understanding God brings to those who desire it, is what can provide people the freedom and hope for the future. 

Neil is available to facilitate seminars and retreats in the areas of leadership, marriage and family issues as well personal finance.  He has served through leading and teaching Financial Peace University, a curriculum geared toward biblically restoring personal finances.
